Today, my husband is kindly guest blogging to review a few products by Clinique and give his appraisal of Chanel, Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme. 🙂
I used the acne solutions clear skin system by Clinique. I don’t use a lot of these products, so I don’t have much to compare to, but I can describe what happened when I used them. My skin is normal – not too dry or oily, and while I never had any problems with acne in the past, in the last few months I’ve had the occasional break-out (stress, lack of sleep, not enough water, etc).
First, I used step 1, the deep clean, which is the Cleasing Bar for Face and Body. I only used this product on my face, and it lathered quite easily. After applying the soap, my face felt a little dry, but not overly so. It did feel cleaner than when I usually use a normal soap on my face. In the very short-term, it was effective.
Second I used step 2, unclog pores, which is the Clarifying Lotion. All of these products state not to use them around your eyes, but I had two pimples, one next to each eye and figured it would be a good idea to use the products on these pimples. This lotion seems to have a lot of alcohol as it burned. It was not as bad as an aftershave would be, but it did burn some, especially on areas where I had shaved, or in the case of one of the pimples the skin was open where it had been popped. I guess I’m not sure how effective this part of the process was. We’ll see…
Lastly, I used step 3, treat & clear, which is the All-Over Clearing Treatment Oil-Free. This product seemed fine – nothing too notable.
I applied the lotion all over my face. After using all of these products, my face feels a bit dry, as the warnings suggest that it might, although it is not terrible. I’ve used other products that were much worse. My wife did say that my face has a better glow to it upon seeing me immediately after I used the products.
I’ll provide an update below as to how these products work when used over a period of a few days.
Also, I’m wearing Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme (Chanel 2012). It’s quite a nice scent.
It has a manliness that is not overly aggressive, but is definitely present. The biggest overall scent I can get reminds me of wood polish (lemon), but it also has a woodiness to it and a bit of pine. There’s a slight hint of leather as well and some musk and a faint hint of flowers. Wood polish sounds like it wouldn’t smell very good, but it’s actually very nice in this case. During the drydown, the leather and wood polish seem to disappear, and my wife claims to detect a sweet tobacco note, which is not listed on Fragrantica. Eventually, I smell vanilla and more woodiness – perhaps Cypress.
The top notes are listed as: sage, cypress, mint and mandarin orange. Middle note is pepper and base notes are: musk, tonka bean, cedar and sandalwood.
Update: Sadly, the Clinique Acne Solutions products do not seem to prevent acne in the long-term on my skin and are actually kind of drying. I would not recommend them and have had better results with other products…
