Cristobal Balenciaga

2015-03-09 12.24.15 (2)Cristobal Balenciaga’s namesake fragrance (Cristobal Balenciaga 1988) is rich, warm and sultry.  Soft, but bold florals (peony in particular) are surrounded by an elegant patchouli, sandalwood and a poignant vanilla.  Cristobal Balenciaga is lovely in an unusual, sweet, but not too sweet sort of way.  It’s an engrossing fragrance – mysterious and yet friendly.

Top notes: carnation, fig leaf and bergamot.   Middle notes: peony, freesia and jasmine.   Base notes: sandalwood, patchouli and vanilla.

  1. Where do you get your hands on all of these? And the photos? If you don’t mind me asking.

I find the perfumes in antique stores and on online auction sites. It’s really fun actually… And all the photos on the blog were taken by me. Thank you for asking. 🙂

      1. I was genuinely curious to know! One of the most unusual hobbies ever. Its so…meek, or something. In the good way!

Haha! 😀 Thank you. You know deciphering and appreciating the notes of fragrances is a little like being a wine connoisseur. It’s very enjoyable… But yes, I see what you mean. Actual perfumers who create iconic scents rarely get much recognition outside of the world of fragrance. It really is about the art of scent for them…

      3. Yes, it’s a pleasing thing, this scent appreciation. Somehow wine connoisseur-dom is viewed as pompous though. That would be to do with social factors and class etc I guess.

Thank you! 🙂 Yes! It is… Too bad too (I think). 🙂
