“Nope”

(August 22nd, 2024)

After reading about Michelle Obama’s reference to “hope” at the DNC convention…I no longer think they have much of a chance of winning in November. …That’s a tired bunch of bullshit.

It’s not that I can’t stand Michelle Obama. It’s that I volunteered for Barack Obama’s campaign in 2008. And I vividly recall Barack Obama’s administration. And I vividly recall the immense letdown that Millennials felt during those eight years.

Glassworks: VI. Closing by Philip Glass plays.

It didn’t go as planned. And we went from thinking we’d elected the coolest first Black US President to feeling like…naive idiots. Obamacare was a flop. It barely changed anything. And he was often labeled a pushover. A weak, overly conciliatory, passive disappointment. And if you expect Millennials to have forgotten that you’re a fool.

Will Millenials openly criticize the Obamas? No! Not a chance. …Millennials, perhaps, are inherently scared to be that intellectually vulnerable. Instead we’ll keep our views quiet…and then vote with them…in some…intricate, fascinating way. And it will probably lean Liberal, even if we’re getting tired of the Democratic Party. Like…really tired of the Democratic Party.

As much as people say they love JFK…they don’t. People are very…covert these days.

And as I watch the DNC convention it feels discouragingly similar to the GOP convention in that it has the vibe of a product advertisement show that comes on late at night. An infomercial. …Like a creepy…overly scripted…informercial.

The bland, constantly cheerful music. The clearly pushed dancing and clapping. It looked like that in Wisconsin and it looks like that in Chicago.

“Vote for my grandfather…Jack Kennedy…in your heart…with a vote for Kamala Harris. Bring back Hope and change. Let’s really make America great again. …I’m Jack Kennedy Schlossberg telling you…to GO VOTE!” Jack Schlossberg might as well have said.

And everyone waves flags and grins and claps.

And in Wisconsin, “My dad…is awesome. My dad is the best! He’s AMAZING!!! …He’ll make America great AGAIN.” one of Trumps kids.

And everyone cheers loudly and the country music plays.

In 20 years…will there even be people there? Or will it all be AI images? Probably not…but it’s scary.

If we still even have a country.

I don’t…truly associate with either party. Part of me is a Democrat. And part of me is deeply Republican. …And I don’t recall the conventions being quite so scripted before. It all feels so weirdly fake.

Why?
