“When I was in college, there was a young man who had a crush on me- I really am unusually beautiful and attractive and people have found me very arousing possibly both women and men, although I’m only attracted to men and anyway, this young man had a crush on me. And he came from a nice family. His father was a dentist. They were rich but he was abnormally intelligent and he had an IQ about 160 and he also ironically or not or creepily or not will say creepily maybe that’s not the right word, but whatever he had Addison’s disease, and he almost died of it, and his best friend saved his life because he was the only person physically present in the house with him other than a dog when he almost died before he was diagnosed, which is really eerie because he was from Maryland. And his name is Bill.

We had a lot of fun together. He had a very similar sense of humor to me and he could really get me to laugh. We got along very very well. Maybe we’re still acquaintances on Facebook although he forgot my 40th birthday which sort of hurts but whatever maybe you were still vaguely acquaintances, but anyway, he’s married to someone else now they have a kid which brings me to my point.

Well, I was friends with him everyone that I went to school with Casi thought there was something wrong with both of us because he had a genius disorder will say he had a trouble concentrating and actually finishing his assignments on time. And it’s sad because I think people thought he was weird professors some other students I think thought he was somehow beneath them. And for further irony he is married to woman who is Ukrainian. Anyway, the point is he was possibly an actual genius like a real one not a fake one like a real one. But that being said he had a hard time finishing college to some degree because he had trouble finishing his assignments and so did I I was worse than him, but he he did seated struggle, and that’s the thing I struggled with my assignments, he struggled with his assignments, and I think the teachers and students thought that there was something wrong with me too, and that I was beneath them. And I think they came to this conclusion that we were both trashy people that he was trashy, and I was trashy, and that we were destined towards this poverty, stricken white trash trailer park future of hopelessness and despair.

He is currently an adjunct professor at one of the most prestigious, Catholic universities, possibly in all the world, and I would bet he will eventually be considered one of the best minds in catholic theology of his generation. If not, if not the best he’ll be considered up there, and in his ability to analyze things, and teach his students, I mean it’s the oldest Catholic university and his part of the country at least I mean it’s it’s a pretty prestigious place that he teaches at and he and he is an adjunct professor. His wife is a doctor and he still is the person that I knew to some degree.

Hi am fairly well-off from an old money family that is not what people expected of me to have. You know a retirement savings and net worth inheritance a stable life so to speak and to be well-off that’s definitely not what people thought but I’ve made people jealous and so is he probably People who look down on us people who probably thought that they were ultimately far superior to us socially and I think that’s what bothers me Casi that’s I can’t remember. “Yes.” says Gunhild. “We were well off eventually. But…a lot of that was in land. We did make about $40,000 one year in the 1960’s though.”

“Yeah. We invested.” says Gunhild.

“How much was the farm worth before the oil?” asks a man.

“$1.3 million in 1983.” says Gunhild, laughing. “These numbers might be a bit off. They could be higher and lower. I’m hard to hear.”

“We had thousands of acres of land.” says Gunhild.

“I’d have said $12 million.” says Lacey.

The Old Money man laughs.

“But basically you were rich. And since you came from some noteworthy wealth…and Nils had some middle class background…and your kids kept the wealth going…it looks to Lacey like you essentially are Old Money.” says the Old Money man.

“Yes. Or Old Money isn’t a class. Right? It’s a group of people. From a specific time and place.” says Lacey. “And it’s unclear how genetically or aesthetically elite you even are.”

“So! I think unless if Old Money is absurdly specific…they’re Old Money.” says Bill.
