Bob (A Comedy)

A gay man in 2026: Umm…-

What’s the difference between Bob Mackie and Lem?

Lacey: Okay.

Do you really want to know?

It’s dangerous.

A man: Let us know.

Lacey: It looks like they’re similar. But, they’re not.

Lem’s chin? Is harsher.

There’s an odd similarity. But Bob’s chin is actually subtly softer. Less…testosterone…heavy.

A woman: DAMN.

I’m seeing it.

Lacey: Yeah.

Lem’s skin is…subtly wrinkled differently.

He had a deeper laugh, than Bob. When he got drunk. Or something… It’s just a more heterosexual look.

Next:

Lem’s smile is supposed to look like Bob’a. But…it doesn’t entirely work. It’s not open wide enough and his lips are not straight enough. …And he’s genuinely laughing in a heterosexual way. Bob, on the other hand, can’t hide his homosexuality. Lem is trying to look like Bob Mackie, who’s actually gay. But it’s not completely there. Whereas it is there, for Bob.

Next:

Lem is not chuckling. Again, in a very heterosexual way. He’s laughing in a way I used to see Bill Cosby laugh, a lot. Especially when he was very amused.

Bob Mackie…has his cheeks lifted high. Taught. And it’s very gay. Lem…is laughing from his belly, in a very heterosexual manner. Like a straight man with a loud sense of humor and a strong personality. …Bob Mackie…is sensitive, artistic and obviously homosexual. Not Lem.

Next:

Lem’s eyes are squinting. In a very heterosexual way. Because he’s laughing in a very heterosexual manner. And it’s natural. …Whereas Bob…is laughing in a very gay way. And his eyes match that, in a natural way. Both men are forcing a laugh, but…also kinda mean it. Both are trying to look gay, because they believe they’re gay. But only Bob is natural and only in Bob does the look match with reality. In Lem it’s…all…forced. It’s the same look…but…when you study it you can spot the differences.

Next:

They have similar faces. But…Lem has a much more pronounced chin.

Lem also has a bigger mouth. And a rougher looking nose. Yes, Bob’s nose is very similar but…also slightly more dainty.

All of Bob’s features are rounder. Softer. Almost brighter somehow, too? There’s more of a course, colder, more distant look in Lem’s face, which is more common in heterosexual men.

And this is going to sound weird. But. Lem has more skin or fat? On his jaw bone. Maybe…he chewed differently. Or maybe he was…grinding his teeth? Or maybe…it was always there. But it’s more common in heterosexual men.

Bob is more taught. And…for lack of a better word, dainty.

And no. It’s not work. It’s not lifestyle. It’s genetics. It’s…them.

Bob’s face is…softer and rounder.

Lem has jowls. And they’re manly, in a sort of heterosexual way. Like he eats. Meat. Passionately.

*I laugh*

But no, I’m quite serious. It conjures images of him passionately eating meat.

Bob…may have too. Eaten pork chops, passionately. But…gay men…tend to be more taught. In that spot. …I don’t know entirely why. …It’s just…not an area on their face that gets as saggy?

…

No. Bob looks gay. It’s just there.

And I’m not perfectly explaining it.

Lem…doesn’t. He’s doing the same thing with his face, but he’s not…gay.

A reader: Would you be fooled by Bob?

Lacey: I look like his wife!

Lulu.

*She laughs*

Well…was he slightly bi?

Bob: Do I look bi?

*He snickers*

Lacey: A bit.

Bob: I was.

But I wanted to be with Gorgen!

She wasn’t…who I wanted.

I identified as gay. Mostly. …But I was…technically bisexual.

A male reader: So…you were actually straight? For a while?

Bob: Ha!

No.

I-

I can’t talk about it. Yet.

I wanted to be with Gorgen.

…Aren’t these photos eerie.

You know what else? …Michael was behind it. …Don’t I remind you of him? Slightly?

…He actually was real stand-up guy.

*He looks sad*

He posed me. To look like LEM. Because he saw the similarities in our features-

*He cracks-up laughing, with Lacey*

…He was a genius.

A photographer: How did Micheal do that? Micheal Rockefeller.

Bob: He’s a genius.

I was…channeling “a fabulous gay man”. And…Lem didn’t come to mind. But…Michael Rockefeller…did. Not consciously. But I was thinking “Rothschild. Rockefeller. Vanderbilt. Etc.” You know? High Society gay. …And his energy posed me, with my consent. I invited him to.

*Lacey laughs with Bob Mackie*

I was actually attracted to men.

Lem wasn’t.

*Later*

Lacey:

  1. Not really.
  2. War is…a fight. Some religions even think it can be a holy fight. It’s war. Competition is about ego. War can be incredibly deep and meaningful, competition isn’t often deep.
  3. Almost. But not…really. …Maybe you misunderstood?
  4. Never!
  5. Ha! Well…the thing is…if they attack us now…we’re hot. So…nuking Qatar? Not likely in 2006. Nuking them now? Mmm…well…who knows? Not really likely. At all. But…- And because of that, we’re ironically safer, in a weird way. Because…and shady covert operations…will be less likely. It’s all out there. Right in the open. …But…it’s also far less safe too, of course. I’d say compared to 1987? Less safe. Obviously. Compared to 2009? More and less safe, depending.

Saddam Hussein: She’s right.

The risk is much higher. Detention centers? Nukes on the table?

But…there’s also a real war. And real animosity.

Good analysis!

Lacey: Thank you!

*Later.*

The perfume community: You don’t think tuberose is…sexy? At all!?

Lacey: Not much.

Is the smell of real roses actually sexy? Or is it beautiful? Maybe even a bit…earthy? Or…prim?

I don’t get why tuberose is supposedly so sexy. But I’m not attracted to women.

I liked Chanel No. 22 because it was pretty. Not to affect people.

The perfume community: Really!?

Lacey: YES!!!!!!

*Rolls eyes*

*Later*

A woman: Is perfume sexy to you?

Lacey: No. Not at all to me.

Only because men have said otherwise. And in that way, yes.

But only because they seem to think so.

I have to try to imagine it.

*Someone points out men*

Oh?

On men?!? YES! Absolutely.

*She purses her lips together and forces a smile*

A man: Do you find men attractive?

Lacey: Yes.

A man: What’s sexy on a man?

Lacey: *Thinks*

I don’t want to discuss that here. Sorry.
