A gay who goes to a Christian church: Umm…-

*he laughs*

What the heck?

Okay. …I stumbled on this blog. And I found it…upsetting. …But the more I read it, the more I realized how deeply felt the whole thing is. And…I realized it’s…incredibly quirky.

It was clearly intended to be read as a blog about vintage perfume. Years ago. And then…something bad happened. And…it seems like it actually wasn’t this woman’s fault.

…And I think, as a writer…she decided to make it…all about…just…writing. Because…why not?

And I get that. Because blogs went out of style…years and years ago. And…yet…they’re still a thing. So why not…get…creative? …Huh. I get it.

Lacey: YES! You have it figured out.

A gay man in America who goes to church: *long pause*

Do you write from your heart?

Lacey: Yes.

A gay man in America who goes to church: Dammit.

I feel so bad for you.

*he thinks*

…HOLY SHIT. …There’s no way Lem was gay. No way.

Do you actually understand that?

Lacey: Mostly.

I mean, I do. But…I got it drilled into my head that he was completely gay. We all did.

A gay man in America who goes to church: He couldn’t have been.

*he thinks*

Be more careful with that. Because…we need you to be strong for us.

…I can’t be that easily fooled, but I’m under 30. And I grew-up in a healthy, loving, stable…well-off…Christian home. Where I was allowed to be myself. …That’s not common.

…I know how sick and manipulative JFK probably actually was. …I mean, of course he was. Why are we even discussing this?

*he laughs*

But…-

*he thinks*

This is still new. People haven’t figured this out, for real this time.

You’re…a trendsetter. Not necessarily intentionally. …And I can see why you were initially popular in the perfume community and then why everyone just hated you and copied you and stole your ideas. Because…you’re a real creative.

Ummm…- *he smiles*

This time though…you’re too far away. …I’m getting it. I’m…catching your drift. But…I’m exceptionally fortunate. Most people haven’t been as lucky. Okay? So…there are just way too many societal hurdles to overcome for an average reader. People can’t fathom what you’re saying. And I know that sounds…absurd. But…they actually can’t.

And I think that’s part of what happened in the perfume community too. With the old money stuff. …People…couldn’t understand what you were getting at. So they just…made up an insult because they wanted to be in a fight with you and feel insulted. And feel justified attacking you and your entire existence.

It’s sad. It’s actually…really, REALLY sad.

*he leaves, feeling overwhelmed*
