My Uncle

It had been far too long since I last saw him and his wife but regardless my uncle left his Earthly form last night. My father’s oldest brother was one of the sweetest, most cheerful and smartest people. His wife used to joke that he could donate serotonin. Ha!

He was president of his frat in college and then after graduating with honors attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. Before leaving for Vietnam he fell madly in love with his wife, my aunt. They met at a club in downtown Minneapolis while dancing.

She was a pretty teacher who loved “That Girl” and he was a promising young accountant. They married and had two children.

Eventually he reached genuinely admirable heights in his career and so did his wife. They were devoted to each other. They also were absolutely fantastic grandparents. A wonderful uncle and aunt too.

My last conversation with him was about English Literature. It was a very short conversation but I’ll keep that with me until my own end in the future.
