“There Will Be BLOOD” by Lacey, edited by Lem

Lacey weeps over Palestine.

A Muslim woman walks by her.

Looks at her awkwardly.

“I hope you find answers.” says a female Muslim dental assistant. It seems…far deeper than what’s called for. But it fits perfectly. And it confuses Lacey deeply.

“Why do they all seem like me!??” she asks Lem and God.

She walks by the ghost of a British man who died in World War I. He’s very comforting to her.

“She’s violently independent, Lem.” he says. “You can’t expect her to be faithful until she knows for a fact that she’s not bothering you by being with you. …Lem…she’s…not ever going to bother you. Ever. That’s not her personality!”

He smirks.

“She’s not bothering me!” says Lem.

“She doesn’t know that!!” says the dead British man.

Later.

“I love you Lacey!!” says Lem, emphatically.

She winces.

“It’s just me.” says Lem. “Trying to tell you I love you.”

She relaxes.

“Yeah.

So…

Why are we together…but not?“ he says.

“I just don’t want to bother you.” says Lacey.

“I secretly loved you the whole time. Or wished I could.” he says. “The love I had for him wasn’t even real. At all.”

She thinks.

“Why are we here?” she says.

“Yeah.” he says, laughing and smiling,

She cozies up to him in her spirit.

“Do you mind? I’m getting awfully close.” she says.

“Not at all!! You’re my soul!” he says.

“Am I going to bore you though? I’m so boring.” says Lacey.
