“Let’s Chat” by Lem

Cantaloupe Island by Herbie Hancock plays.

Lacey and Lem go downstairs to their hotel room. Lacey lays on the lovely bed.

“We’re not in Paris.” says Lacey.

“Are we in New York?” says Lacey.

“YES.” says Lem.

“Oh. What happened to Paris?” says Lacey.

“I didn’t feel like going.” says Lem.

“Do they have good oysters here?” says Lacey.

“They do. Do you want to order those now? Or later?” says Lem.

Later.” says Lacey.

“Can I have champagne?” says Lacey.

“Yes. …What about tea?” he says.

“Mm. No. I just want you.” says Lacey, reaching out an arm and hand to him.

She sighs.

“I need you.” she says.

“Okay. But we’re also hungry.

Darling…grilled steak, grilled salmon, and à misunderstood.” says Lem.

“Yes. And all the other stuff.” says Lacey.

“Of course!” says Lem.

He orders.

“Coffee?” he says.

“How long have you been in this room?” says Lacey suddenly seeing newspapers strewn about.

“Since you decided to start writing.” says Lem.

“Last night’s post.” says Lacey.

“Yes.” says Lem. “Coffee?”

“Is that espresso?” says Lacey.

“Yes.” he says.

“Yes, please.” she says.

She sips it. “I could throw this at you.” she says to him.

Then he joins her in bed. And they doze off slightly in each other. Pleasantly waiting for dinner.
